Dark Magic Trip Project Proposal

My intent with this project is to produce a surreal audio/visual performance of animated and generative visuals; with aesthetics drawn from Afrofuturism, psychedelic culture, and digital art. Dark Magic Trip is a play on the acronym DMT, the psychoactive chemical in all living beings; that is responsible for dreaming in humans. In a society that has created rigid structures, lines, and definitions of identity, DMT aims to embrace the absurdity of our shared experience, and bring viewers to space of speculation of our infinite self. Projection Mapping onto two curved surfaces in which the DJ/VJ is positioned between the two surfaces lends itself to the concepts throughout the visuals such as fluidity and multi-dimensionality. Often EDM visuals aim to create a space void of meaning; while this is a projection of absurdity, love, and black magic from the void.
